YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — A marriage between Washington State University agriculture research and software development is putting critical weather information on farmer's mobile phones.
A Yakima software firm, called 4Quarters, is using the WSU weather monitoring network in a system to deliver weather and crop disease data to mobile devices equipped with a Web browser.
Farmers can get the information while out in their fields or orchards.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the system known as AgAlertz is currently being tested at no charge. So far, 95 farmers have signed up for the alerts.
