SNOQUALMIE, Wash. - A small Christmas Eve quake shook the Snoqualmie area Thursday morning, jolting a few residents awake but causing no damage or injuries.
The earthquake struck at 8:00 a.m. and was centered about one mile southeast of Snoqualmie, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Web site. Despite it being a small magnitude, the quake was very shallow, just 10.5 miles below the surface. Residents in Duvall, Carnation and Fall City reported feeling the quake.
Many neighbors along Kimball Creek in Snoqualmie have been scratching their heads as to what actually happened. Residents say they were shocked to discover their neighborhood was the epicenter and say the quake felt unlike anything they've experienced before.
The front lawn of Don and Margot Baglen's home literally sits about 10 miles above the epicenter of Wednesday's quake, say U.S. Geological Survey officials.
"The house vibrated, and it was like a loud blast," said Don Baglen. "I mean I had thought a bomb had gone off at one of my neighbor's houses or something."
"I thought there had been an explosion somewhere, like a gas explosion. In fact my husband went down and checked the water heater to make sure it hadn't blown up," said Margot Baglen.
"The ground is soft here so they rumble and roll, and this one was like a big bang, and a hit, and it shook everything, and that was it," said Mike Barnes, neighbor.
The good news is no damage has been reported.
