CANNON BEACH, Ore. – The mother of a toddler found dead last Friday in a Cannon Beach hotel room was arrested Sunday. Authorities spotted Jessica Smith in a wooded area 15 miles east of Cannon Beach.
Jessica Smith will be arrained Monday on charges of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder.
On Sunday, an arrest warrant was issued for Smith of Goldendale, Washington.
Investigators said an autopsy confirmed that little Isabella Smith's death was a homicide.
On Friday morning, a housekeeper at the Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach discovered a 2-year-old girl dead and 13-year-old girl critically cut inside a hotel room, according to Cannon Beach Police Chief Jason Schermerhorn.
Police began searching for the mother, 40-year-old Jessica Smith, and the SUV she was driving.
According to the Oregonian, the attorney for Jessica Smith's husband said Friday was the day Smith was court-ordered to turn her children over to their father, Gregory Smith, who she was separated from.
Jessica was supposed to turn the kids over as part of a joint-custody agreement, the report states.
Schemerhorn said a murder warrant was issued for the arrest of Jessica Smith.
Smith's husband, Gregory Smith, was cooperating fully with police.

The teen was being treated at Doernbecher Children's Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University, and although seriously injured was expected to survive.
