KEY WEST, Fla. -- Idaho Aquarium, Inc. was sentenced Tuesday for conspiring to harvest, transport and sell illegal wildlife.

U.S. District Judge Jose Martinez accepted the Idaho Aquarium's guilty plea and ordered the company to pay a criminal fine of $10,000 and serve three years of probation. In addition, the aquarium must submit a comprehensive compliance plan and conduct annual audits by an independent auditor. The aquarium must also make $50,000 in community service payments to the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation to promote research and restoration of marine life in the Florida Keys.

According to court documents, Ammon Covino and Christopher Conk, former directors at the Idaho Aquarium, knew about requirements of Florida law but directed suppliers to ignore the law and make the shipments.
