PORTLAND -- A Portland woman says her cat may have saved her life from a fire in her mobile home early Saturday morning.
The fire broke out inside a mobile home at 16745 SE Division St. around 6 a.m. When police arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from inside, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.
The woman who lived inside the home said she was awakened by her cat and realized her house was on fire. She and her cat were able to make it out without serious injury.
The woman was evaulated by firefighters for smoke, but didn't need to go to the hospital.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby mobile homes.
The woman's mobile home was significantly damaged. Red Cross volunteers were helping the woman find temporary shelter.
Firefighters were investigating the cause of the fire.
