Avalanche threat closes Idaho 21

BOISE COUNTY - The 12-mile stretch of Idaho 21 between the Grandjean Junction and Banner Summit known as "Avalanche Alley," will close Friday at 6 p.m. due to recent snowfall.

According to the Idaho Transportation Department, the route will be evaluated "regularly" for the possiblity of reopening.

ITD reports the area received eight inches of snow Friday morning, and more is expected through the weekend.

Avalanche Alley has closed once already this winter. ITD reports 9 avalanches tumbled down to the highway on the weekend of January 10.
