PORTLAND – While showers continue Sunday and Portland’s rainy season moves into its peak, the Cascades are getting a healthy dumping of snow.
Snow levels over the mountain passes will hold near 3,000 feet. Highway 26 over Government Camp will see 2 to 4 inches of snow through the day Sunday while Timberline could see a foot of snow, according to KGW Meteorologist Jim Donovan.
Snow will continue to fall in the Cascades into Monday and travelers should expect winter conditions.
Timberline Lodge started out Saturday morning with no snow, but by the afternoon several inches blanketed the historic retreat.
A group of Portland State University students struggled to get chains on their car after getting stuck on the slick roads Saturday.
It will likely be weeks before the runs open at Timberline, but with snow falling, people are already lining up for season passes.
