CLE ELUM, Wash. -- Officials say two young boys, ages 3 and 4, who were trapped inside a burning home in Cle Elum have died in the fire.
A 911 call came in around 1 p.m. Friday that two children were trapped inside a burning home on 3rd Street in Cle Elum. When firefighters arrived, the children's mother and father were outside trying frantically to get to their children, who were inside.
Firefighters with several agencies battled the flames, which spread quickly. Photos taken of the fire showed the front door fully engulfed in flames and windows blacked and shattered by the heat; video showed a cloud of smoke that could be seen from miles away.
The boys' mother suffered minor burns to her arms. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Firefighters do not yet know the cause of the fire. The Kittitas County fire marshal entered the home to determine the cause of the fire. Before then, it had not been safe to enter the premises. Fire officials and police later confirmed the bodies of the two young boys were found in the burned home.
The news weighs heavily on the tight knit community. Neighbors say the boys were out the night before trick or treating for Halloween.
