LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- The Snohomish County medical examiner says a 16-year-old boy who collapsed and died during physical education class last week had a heart condition.
The Seattle Times reports that the medical examiner said Tuesday that Matthew Truax had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The condition involves a thickening of the heart muscle that makes it more difficult for it to pump blood.
The boy collapsed last Friday at Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood, Wash.
Teachers and medics tried unsuccessfully to revive the boy after he collapsed while running outside on the school's track.
