PORTLAND - If not in the Los Angeles, where else would the Dude "abide"? Perhaps in Portland.
In Estately's latest "Best Cities" list, The Rose City was amongst "The 11 Most Lebowski-Friendly Cities" for its amount of Lebowski-themed bars, bowling alleys, and bike rides. It also helped that The Dude's sweater was made by Portland-based Pendleton Woolen Mills, and "The Stranger" Sam Elliott grew up here.
"If any one man’s DNA were secretly implanted into a city’s population it would The Dude’s DNA in Portland, Oregon," the blog noted. "This city is Dude-ville, a Lebowski paradise of aging hippies and mildly-employed idealists."
The blog also notes that The Dude would enjoy Portland for its lax marijuana usage regulations and abundance of bowling alleys.
"The Big Lebowski" - a Coen Brothers film released in 1998 - has become a cult comedy, even inspiring an annual "Lebowski Fest", which was held in Portland in 2009.
