PORTLAND – Three men were shot while boarding a party on the Portland Spirit Saturday night in what police are calling a gang-affiliated shooting.
Approximately 300 people were boarding the boat near the Salmon Street Springs Fountain at Naito Parkway and Salmon Street around 11 p.m. when three suspects shot the men, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.
The event was reportedly a “red and white” party that attracted a large number of gang members and associates, Simpson said.
Three suspects approached the line of waiting people and there was a confrontation before shots were fired. The suspects ran from the scene westbound on Salmon Street into downtown Portland, Simpson said.
The victims, 26-year-old Leonard Brightmon, 22-year-old Xavier Bolden and 22-year-old Ronnie Smith, had traumatic injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Smith is in critical condition but expected to survive, Simpson said.
The suspects were described as African American men in their late teens or early 20s with medium height and weight. They were wearing all white clothes.
Naito Parkway was closed while police investigated.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Gang Enforcement Team at (503) 823-4106. No arrested have been made.
