GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. -- A 10-year-old boy camping with his father in the White River Canyon area of Mount Hood fell 150 feet down a steep embankment Tuesday.

The child was brought out by rescuers early Wednesday morning to the White River Sno-Park and he was flown to the Oregon Health & Sciences University with serious injuries.

Hood River County dispatchers said a call from his father came in around 9 p.m. Tuesday night that his son had fallen 50 yards and was hurt.

A rescuer told KGW the child was walking around a campsite when he tripped and tumbled down the slope through trees and brush.

Crews reached the injured boy about midnight and he was carried out about 3 a.m.
