SEATTLE -- A group of Seahawks fans hopes to set a Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium.
The group called Volume 12 hopes to set the record during the Seahawks home opener Sept. 15 against the 49ers at CenturyLink Field. That will be a Sunday night game on KING 5.
The current world record of nearly 132 decibels was set in 2011 during a soccer match in Turkey. The Seahawks website says Seattle's 12th Man has been measured at 112 decibels. However, CenturyLink Field can hold 7,000 more fans than the stadium where the current record is held.
The league announced in April it will now allow teams to use video scoreboards to encourage crowd noise in stadiums during entire plays.
Seahawks fans will remember that they actually triggered a small seismic event during a playoff game three years ago. It happened when Marshawn Lynch broke more than a half-dozen tackles on the way to a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints.
