SEATTLE - Seattle Police Chief John Diaz will step down after more than two and a half years on the job, according to Seattle City Council member Bruce Harrell.
Diaz became the chief of police on August 16, 2010 after serving more than two years as interim chief.
The official announcement of Diaz's retirement is expected to take place at 11:30 a.m. today. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Chief Diaz will take part in the news conference.
Sources say Assistant Chief Jim Pugel will be named interim chief.
