DIETRICH, Idaho -- The teaching methods of a south-central Idaho science teacher are being investigated after a handful of parents complained about how he explained the reproductive system to high school students.

Dietrich School Superintendent Neal Hollingshead tells The Times-News in a story published Wednesday that the state's professional standards commission is looking into the complaints filed against teacher Tim McDaniel.

McDaniel says four parents were offended when he explained the biology of an orgasm and included the word vagina during a biology course taken by 10th graders.

McDaniel says he doesn't include anything that isn't mentioned in the textbook, and that he's taught the class for 18 years without receiving a complaint from parents or students.

McDaniel says if he's asked to sign a letter of reprimand he'll refuse.
