PORTLAND -- Police searched Tuesday morning for an infant reported missing from an apartment at East Burnside and 148th and the child was located in the front yard of a home in the 400 block of NE 139th by a neighbor.
The four-month-old was found safe and taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The child was last seen at an apartment complex at East Burnside Street and 148th Avenue. A call was made about 2 a.m. to 911 that the child was missing.
Police later went to a home in North Portland as part of the incident.
A neighbor said his neighbor was the one who spotted the baby. The woman told him the baby was wearing only a short-sleeved top and diaper. She spotted the baby in her front yard as she left for work.
Portland policeman Kevin Macho held the baby after it was found safe.
"It's a good day," he said.
He said the child was cold. He could not disclose much more, saying specific details were part of an ongoing investigation that included many detectives and street officers.
What's important, he said, was that the baby was found. Macho said it was touching for him being a father.
"Under these uniforms, we are husbands, mothers, fathers," he said.
