“Are you ready now.”

Those are the troubling words uttered by the suspect in two attempted abductions in Bellingham of Friday.  The second victim, a 24-year-old woman, wished to remain anonymous.  But she gave a detailed account of her attack and attacker.

Bellingham Police said at around 7pm Friday, the woman was walking home from the store near Aldrich Rd.  According to the woman, she could hear someone walking behind her in the dark as she crossed a vacant parking lot.

“He started shuffling his feet,” she recalled, “It was like he was coming towards me.  I realized he wanted to do something.

“After the third foot shuffle,” she continued, “That’s when he actually ran towards me.”

He grabbed her arm, leaving a bruise.  He then sprayed something in her eye.

“When he was spraying it, he said ‘you’re going to come with me and you’re going to do what I say,’” the victim said, “Are you ready now?”

She relented only to wait for a chance to get away, she described.  After pushing her attacker back, she screamed for help.  The suspect ran off.

Bellingham Police said the Friday night attack was the second of the day in the northwest neighborhood.  In the morning, a 13-year-old girl was nearly abducted in similar circumstances just blocks away, authorities said.

It comes just days after two other attempted abductions on the Western Washington University campus, though police do not believe the incidents are connected.

The second victim told KING 5 she wished she’d known about the earlier attack in order to avoid walking around alone.

She hopes her story helps other women become “ready”.

“If I see his eyes again, I’ll be able to recognize him,” she said, “Just the way he looked at me and the calmness in his voice.  There’s something not right with that person.”

The attacker in both cases is described as white, in his 20’s, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build. He had lighter-colored facial hair and dark-rimmed glasses. He wore blue jeans and a dark-colored jacket.
