PORTLAND -- A 28-year-old felon was arrested in Portland Wednesday for attempting to use social media to sell firearms, police said.

Investigators were alerted to an online post in which Kyle Quinn Culley was attempting to sell some guns, according to Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Pete Simpson. Police then confirmed that Culley was a convicted felon.

An undercover officer arranged to buy the guns and then the PPB Gun Task Force served a search warrant at a location in the 8400 block of Southeast Insley Street, Simpson said.

Four guns were seized and Culley was jailed on four counts each of unlawful possession of a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. He had been previously convicted on several felony charges, including kidnapping and coercion.

Simpson said it's not illegal to sell guns via social media, though the rules vary by state and by website. It is illegal for a felon to possess a firearm.

"This is a fairly unique case," Simpson said, "but certainly social media is an evolving area for criminal activity and for police investigation."
