TROUTLAKE, Wash. -- Searchers are looking for a 60-year-old mushroom picker missing since Saturday afternoon in south central Skamania County.
Gail Wietrick, of Troutlake, WA was last seen when she got out of a vehicle and left Little Rock Creek road to check for mushrooms around 4:30 p.m.
Wietrick’s party searched for her throughout the night and the next day until notifying authorities at 3 p.m. Sunday.
"The hypothermia is a real concern for us right now so hopefully she was able to find cover and we’ll be able to find her today," Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox said Monday.
Cox added that crews would likely stay out overnight, as searchers try to stay a step ahead of the growing storm. They were focusing the search on 12.5 square miles of forest.
An additional 35 searchers were also requested through the Washington State Department of Emergency Management at Camp Murray, WA.
The terrain is steep, with densely forested with brush.
"It's steep and there’s water and tons of debris on the ground," explained forester John Stevenson, who was helping with the search. "You can’t walk straight for more than 50 feet, probably."
