GLADSTONE, Ore. – Friends of a man who drowned in the Willamette River two weeks ago continue to grieve while they search for a beloved family dog who disappeared at the scene.

On November 14, 53-year-old Thomas Ermini drowned after driving his truck onto a gravel bar. The tide came up, and Ermini couldn’t make it back to shore. His girlfriend, 46-year old Sandra Gracey was rescued by fishermen. And one of two chocolate Labradors with the couple made it safely back as well.

But Ermini’s mother’s lab, Ruby disappeared. Since then, there have been reports Ruby was spotted in the park area, spurring family friends to search.

“We believe this dog is still alive, still in the park area and we believe that whoever has her has no idea the trauma, the tragedy that the family has recently gone through,” said Laura Henderson.

Two weeks after the drowning incident, Henderson and Shari Cooper were putting up new fliers, hoping someone will know where Ruby is and return her to Tom Ermini’s mother, Marilyn.

She is dealing with a double tragedy: Her son Tom drowned two weeks ago, and her husband died 3 days before that, of a chronic illness.

“She’s a strong lady, there’s no words to express what she’s going through right now. It’s just devastating, it’s a nightmare. And we need to get Ruby back, we need a little happiness,” said Cooper.

If you have any information about where Ruby is, call 503-652-2861. There is a $500 reward for her safe return.
