CORNELIUS, Ore. – After a five-hour standoff, a man in a Cornelius home surrendered to police after reportedly pouring gasoline on his girlfriend, himself and his house Saturday, police said.

Amaury Lopez, 35, barricaded himself in a house at 452 South 9th Avenue around 11 a.m. and reportedly disconnected the telephone, police said.

Lopez’s girlfriend, told police her boyfriend had assaulted her. She and two children escaped the house and were taken to the hospital unharmed, police said.

Police evacuated surrounding houses because of explosive danger from the gasoline.

Lopez surrendered around 4 p.m. and was taken to the hospital and then taken to the Washington County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault and kidnapping.
