PORTLAND – A 60-year-old man struck and killed in a Portland hit-and-run late Wednesday night was identified by police Thursday afternoon.
Family members told KGW David Charles Eklund was on the way to his mother’s home when he was hit by the SUV near the intersection of Southeast 71st Avenue and Powell Boulevard.
Witnesses told police the driver stopped for a moment, then took off.
"People make mistakes, they get scared in situations like this. What we'd ask right now is for that person to come forward and explain what happened last night. There's a family out there and they need some answers," said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.
The driver was described as a white man in his 30s or 40s with short black hair. The vehicle was a smaller SUV, dark in color.
Investigators were looking at surveillance video from local businesses on Thursday, to see if the SUV may have been caught on camera.
Anyone with information was asked to call Portland Police.
