LONGVIEW, Wash. -- Nearly 75 animals perished when a house full of more than 100 reptiles, spiders and amphibians used for birthday parties went up in flames in Longview, Wash. Thursday, firefighters said.

The house at 5041 Mt. Solo Road , which was home to the Reptile Road Show, was considered a total loss after a fire consumed the residence shortly before 1 p.m., according to a news release from Cowlitz Fire and Rescue.

Twenty-five animals were recovered alive and the business owner, Garth Pithan, is seeking assistance from the humane society to house the animals temporarily.

Garth started the business in 2007 with help from a friend who owned a pet store. The Reptile Road Show has reportedly been part of more than 100 events in the Longview area, according to its website.

Firefighters were investigating the cause of the fire but don’t believe it was caused intentionally.
