IDAHO CITY -- An 18-year-old volunteer firefighter accused of intentionally starting a wildfire near Robie Creek in September was back in court Monday afternoon.
Boise County Sheriff's deputies arrested Nathaniel Bartholomew as he was actively fighting the Karney Fire. Witnesses say they saw Bartholomew in the area where the fire started.
Investigators say Bartholomew confessed to starting the fire, and may have done so to get the attention of his father, who is also a firefighter.
Bartholomew sat silent as his lawyer waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
His next court appearance is set for Oct. 11.
The Karney Fire burned 440 acres in the Robie Creek and Wilderness Ranch area and destroyed one home.
