PORTLAND – A dog is the subject of a bitter custody dispute involving a Northeast Portland man and an Oregon State University student.

The Husky-Shepherd mix jumped over the fence in the yard at its home in Northeast Portland over a year ago and vanished. Sam Hanson-Fleming searched for Chase but never found him.

Since then, OSU student Jordan Biggs found and adopted the dog.

Sometime later, Sam spotted Chase in a coffee shop drive-through window and asked to have him back. But Biggs refused.

That’s when the legal wrangling began. Hanson-Fleming fought to get Chase back and Multnomah County Animal Services awarded him ownership.

After that, Biggs filed a lawsuit, asking a judge to intervene and name her as the dog’s rightful owner. Hanson-Fleming said he expects to be served in that lawsuit soon.

No word on how long the legal wrangling may continue.
