A 2-year-old boy drowned in Thurston County. It happened around 10:15 this morning at Clear Lake near Yelm, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's office.

The boy's family lives within the gated community of Clearwood. It is surrounded by tall trees, and the homes are built up around Clear Lake.

The boy was playing with his older brother and cousin in the family's back yard, which sits right next to the lake. The toddler wandered off.

“Kids are fast at 2 years old, anybody that's a parent knows that,” said Sgt. Alvin Griffin

The boy's mom and dad realized their son was missing and began to look for the toddler. His mom is the one that found him in the water.

“She went into the water and pulled the child out, she was traumatized and distruaght over it and that's where the neighbors helped out by coming in and started CPR,” said Griffin.

Medics worked on the boy for a long time but were not able to revive him, said Griffin.

“The dad carried the child back up to their home and let the wife say goodbye to her child,” said Griffin. “It's a tragedy accident.”
