A man was shot dead by Pierce County Sheriff's deputies in Spanaway Thursday morning after he rammed a patrol car.
The 31-year-old man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Deputies said he rammed a patrol car twice with a stolen truck while blocked in at a dead end. When he backed the truck up to ram the patrol car a third time, deputies fired on him.
The car was rammed so hard, the push bars were crunched back up on top of the hood of the patrol car, according to deputies.
The incident began around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of 167th Street and B Street East.
The suspect was called to the attention of police after he was seen driving the truck in circles near that intersection.
When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect drove the truck down the dead end. He was shot when he rammed a patrol car two times.
Deputies said the suspect also hit a power pole and knocked a transformer loose. Some homes in the area lost power as a result.
Investigators found the truck was stolen from University Place on Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies said the suspect had an extensive criminal history.
