NEW YORK (AP) — A woman accused of killing her autistic 8-year-old son in a botched murder-suicide attempt claimed in a letter that she wanted to spare the boy from predatory adults she believed had abused him.

Gigi Jordan painted a picture of persecution in a rambling, 20-page letter authorities discovered on her computer after she was found semiconscious and son Jude Michael Mirra dead in a Manhattan luxury hotel Feb. 5. Her defense lawyer made the letter public Friday.

Jordan wrote that "I can't bear to watch my son live this life and worry that I will be taken from him or he will be taken from me." The wealthy former pharmaceutical executive said she believed she or her son might be killed.

Jordan has pleaded not guilty to murder. She's being held without bail in a jail hospital.
