RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — One of seven teenagers accused in the fatal attack on a Hispanic immigrant on New York's Long Island has pleaded guilty to gang assault and hate crime charges.
Nicholas Hausch entered the plea in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on Thursday. The agreement requires him to testify against the six other defendants.
The teens are accused of the Nov. 8, 2008, killing of Ecuadorean immigrant Marcelo Lucero (mar-SEHL'-oh loo-SEHR'-oh). The 37-year-old was fatally stabbed in the chest in Patchogue (PACH'-awg).
All of the teens had previously pleaded not guilty to various charges in connection to the attack.
