ALLEN, Texas -- Allen High School's Eagle Stadium will be closed for the 2014 season, according to the school district.
The district says engineers found "significant" problems and said that it "cannot be repaired quickly."
News 8 reported in February that concrete had started to crack at the stadium and engineers determined that there were major deficiencies at the concourse level -- specifically support structures that were not designed to withstand so much weight.
The stadium opened in 2012.
In a release sent Tuesday by the district, Superintendent Lance Hindt announced the closing. He said home games will be played in Plano instead. Plano will also host two games that were supposed to be played in Allen.
PBK Architects and Pogue Construction had each agreed to offer $1 million into an escrow account to help with repairs and costs associated with the closure. But, legal issues between their insurance companies forced the companies to withdraw the offer.
“Our commitment to Allen students and taxpayers remains firm that the stadium be repaired properly at the expense of those responsible for the failure: the architect and the builder," Hindt said.
He added that the district wanted to avoid the "legal wrangling" of who's responsible, and said he is "frustrated" that an agreement wasn't reachable.
Pogue Construction released a statement on the issue Monday.
"Pogue has stated from the beginning that it would work closely with Allen ISD to identify and correct any problems in the stadium. Pogue has stated publicly that it takes responsibility for its work on the stadium. While Pogue could not participate in the escrow proposal without risking insurance coverage, an asset which Pogue considers of greater value to Allen ISD than the proposed escrow agreement, Pogue maintains more than sufficient insurance to stand behind its work on the stadium."
All sides are still waiting for a full June report by Nelson Forensics. The district first noticed the cracking issues at the stadium when it opened in September of 2012.
No season tickets will be available this year for Allen football, the release said. Season ticket holders for last year will keep their seats for the 2015 season when the stadium reopens.
