HOQUIAM, Wash. (AP) — Authorities in Hoquiam, Wash., say an hours-long standoff continues with a man accused of shooting and wounding a Hoquiam police officer who was attempting to arrest him.
KOMO-TV reported that by late Wednesday night, officers had repeatedly lobbed tear gas into the house in an effort to flush the man out.
Officers say the man has disabled two police robots sent into the house and they believe he has a gas mask.
Grays Harbor County sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate told KXRO the officer was shot in the side and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital.
Police say a 53-year-old woman and 49-year-old-man were wanted on arrest warrants. Officers arrested the woman Tuesday but the man was away. As they returned Wednesday, police say the man produced a firearm and shot at the officers.
