SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The U.S. Small Business Administration says Oregon small businesses received a record number of taxpayer-guaranteed loans last year.
The agency in 2012 guaranteed $428 million in loans in its Portland District, which includes all of Oregon plus part of southwest Washington.
The agency guaranteed $391 million in 2011.
The Statesman Journal (http://stjr.nl/YykgIO) reports that the size of loans is also increasing, following an October 2010 change in loan limits. The previous limit was $2 million and that was increased to $5 million.
Over the next two years, 26 of the larger loans were made in Oregon.
