VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Contract talks broke down Friday between representatives of union dockworkers and three Pacific Northwest grain terminal operators who returned to the bargaining table for the first time in months.
A bargaining session previously scheduled for Saturday was cancelled.
The Columbian reports (http://is.gd/cBjFRB) that the International Longshore and Warehouse Union on Friday proposed a contract based on one ratified by TEMCO grain operators and union locals in Tacoma, Kalama and Portland.
Representatives of three grain-terminal operators — United Grain Corp., Columbia Grain and Louis Dreyfus Commodities — rejected the union proposal.
The bargaining session was the first since last December.
