VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Washington Gov. Jay Inslee is visiting Vancouver Friday to meet with local business leaders about plans for a new Interstate 5 over the Columbia River connecting with Portland.
Oregon recently approved putting in $450 million toward the project. Washington has to kick in a similar amount to secure federal funding.
Still in dispute is whether the bridge should extend Portland's light-rail system into Vancouver.
Some lawmakers, including Republican Sen. Don Benton of Vancouver, say the state should reconsider whether the bridge project should include a light rail line. Inslee says that light rail is non-negotiable.
