SEATTLE (AP) — The family of a Chinese international student who faces a vehicular-homicide charge has posted the $2 million bail to free him from custody.
The Seattle Times reports (http://bit.ly/Z7L6US) that 19-year-old Yichun Xu is accused of driving his newly purchased Mercedes-Benz at freeway speeds through residential Des Moines, running through ha stop sign and crashing. A 25-year-old woman in the car hit died of a severe brain injury. Three others in the car were also injured.
King County prosecutor's chief of staff Ian Goodhew says it's rare for anyone to post such a high bail. Goodhew says his office requested the high bail because of concerns Xu will flee the country.
Xu's attorney, Scott Leist, couldn't be reached for comment. Xu has been ordered to surrender his passport.
