PORT HADLOCK, Wash. (AP) — A Kitsap Transit passenger ferry that was headed for Port Townsend for winter maintenance ran aground Monday in a narrow channel near Indian Island.
The Kitsap Sun reports (http://bit.ly/WcYZE4) the ferry did not have any serious damage and officials expect to refloat it at high tide Tuesday.
Kitsap Transit Executive Director John Clauson says the skipper took the ferry on the wrong side of the channel marker in the Portage Creek canal separating Indian Island and Port Hadlock.
The twin-hull, 117-passenger ferry was out of service. It has been used to carry passengers between Bremerton and Seattle.
