EDMONDS, Wash. (AP) — An Edmonds police officer accused of having sex with a woman he had detained resigned Tuesday after he was told he could be fired.
Forty-eight-year-old Daniel Lavely was charged in November with custodial sexual misconduct.
He's accused of having sex in his patrol car last May with a 28-year-old woman he contacted for jaywalking and fleeing an emergency room.
His lawyer, Lauren Gotchy, told The Seattle Times (http://is.gd/9Ohrt4) his decision to resign is not an admission of guilt. Trial is set for May 3.
