TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The century-old pagoda building at Tacoma's Point Defiance Park reopens Saturday after a $7 million renovation to repair damage from a 2011 arson.
Metro Parks also upgraded the building with heated flooring, meeting rooms and a restored plaza outside the pagoda.
Built in 1914 in the park's Japanese garden in the style of a 17th century Japanese lodge, it was operated originally as a trolley station.
The pagoda has been a favored site for parties, memorial services and weddings.
A 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to setting the fire nearly two years ago that damaged the structure and roof.
