SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Washington state Department of Ecology says its spill responders have been unable to locate the source of an oil sheen reported on the Snake River near Lower Granite Dam in southeast Washington.

Ecology workers removed absorbent boom from the river Tuesday since the boom did not appear to be collecting any oil from the water.

The department's Jeff Lewis says the possible spill appears to have been "a very minor release of unknown origin."

The Army Corps of Engineers reported the oil sheen earlier Tuesday.
