TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The Tacoma City Council passed a $397 million budget Tuesday night that cuts 217 jobs.
The 2013-14 spending plan also closes a fire station at the port, cuts library hours and leaves non-essential street repairs unfixed. Drivers will have to pay $20 more for vehicle license tabs.
The News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/UFOVSJ ) about 100 city workers will retire under the next budget, about 70 will be laid off, and about 50 vacant positions will vanish.
