ORANGUTAN'S CANCER TREATMENT SIMILAR TO HUMANS - Peanut is the first documented case of an orangutan undergoing a cancer treatment that is similar to that of a human. She began treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in early August in Miami and is expected to receive six treatments of chemotherapy.
OCCUPY WALL STREET: ONE YEAR LATER - To mark the one year anniversary of the Occupy movement, current and former members talk to the Associated Press about the changes they see in the organization.

CHICAGO TEACHERS STRIKE - The Chicago Teachers Union decided to remain on strike, saying they needed more time to review a complicated proposal. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is turning to the courts to put an end to the strike that is entering its second week and has left parents scrambling to make alternative child care arrangements for at least two more days.
U.S. EMBASSY PROTESTS - Violent protests have continued throughout the Middle East, Africa and Asia in response to an anti-Islam film that was produced in the United States. Protests spread to Pakistan and Afghanistan over the weekend, resulting in a least one death.
OBAMA-BIDEN CAMPAIGN - President Obama is campaigning in Ohio today where he is expected to make remarks on the future of the automobile industry and to launch a new trade enforcement action against China. Ohio, a battleground state, has a large manufacturing base where many blame China for depressing its industry. Vice President Joe Biden will be campaigning in Iowa.
ROMNEY-RYAN CAMPAIGN - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will address the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles. His running mate, Paul Ryan, is campaigning in Iowa.

CA, COPTIC CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS CONDEMN ANTI-ISLAM FILM - Coptic Christian and Muslim leaders are holding a joint news conference today in Los Angeles to show solidarity condemning the anti-Islam film that has sparked protests worldwide.
KY, HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION KILLING ARRAIGNMENT - Dr. Mahmoud Hindi, charged with killing two men at a Homeowners Association meeting on September 6 in Louisville, is being arraigned today in court.
CO, VFW POST REFOCUSES TO ATTRACT YOUNG VETS - The country's oldest Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1 in Denver is getting rid of its bar in the hopes of attracting younger vets. The post merged with another VFW post and sold its property to pay for the renovations.
DC, GIANT PANDA GIVES BIRTH TO CUB - The female giant panda at the National Zoo in Washington has given birth to a cub. The zoo says Mei Xiang gave birth late Sunday night.
AZ, SLAIN BORDER PATROL'S PARENTS SPEAK OUT - The parents of the border patrol agent killed with guns from Operation Fast and Furious speak out.

PROTESTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST - Hundreds of Afghans burned cars and threw rocks at a U.S. military base as a demonstration turned violent in Kabul. Violence continues in Pakistan after protesters broke through a barricade near the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, prompting a dramatic clash with police.
CHINA-JAPAN ISLANDS DISPUTE TRIGGERS RIOTING - Violent clashes between protesters and riot police continued in southern China, sparked by a dispute between China and Japan over a series of tiny islands between the two countries.
17 BODIES FOUND ON MEXICO FARM - The dismembered bodies of 17 men were found on a farm in central Mexico in an area disputed by violent drug cartels, say prosecutors. The bodies were discovered as Mexicans celebrated their Independence Day.
SOYUZ LANDING IN KAZAKHSTAN - An international three-man crew onboard a Russian-made Soyuz capsule touched down successfully on the cloudless central Kazakhstan steppe after 123 days at the International Space Station.

STEAM TRAVEL REVISITED IN AUSTRALIA - On the banks of the Murray River, thousands of Australians gathered to celebrate the glory days of steam travel. The paddle steamer flotilla took spectators back in time to a more romantic, sedate form of transport. The flotilla marks the centenary birthday of one special paddle steamer, the PS Melbourne.
