CAMERON, Texas -- The funeral for 62-year-old Michael Cahill was a somber moment for his family and friends. Cahill was the only civilian killed in the Ft. Hood massacre. He was working as a physician's assistant at the processing center when the alleged shooter, Nidal Hassan shot and killed 13 people.
On Sunday, a military escort carried Cahill's flag-covered casket into Saint Monica's Catholic Church. Cahill served in the Army National Guard for 23 years and was given full military honors.
Cahill graduated from Rogers High School in 1966 and worked as a registered nurse before going back to school to become a physician's assistant.
Michael Cahill is survived by his wife, Joleen, and three adult children. Joleen's sister-in-law says the family is filled with gratitude for the love shown by people across the country.
