Knotgrass fire burning 500 acres near Pomeroy

GARFIELD COUNTY, Wash --- State fire mobilization has been authorized for the Knotgrass Fire near Pomeroy in Garfield County.

The fire started August 2 around 4:00 p.m. and Is currently estimated to be 500 acres and growing. The fire is threatening crops, power infrastructure and homes in the area. No evacuation notices are currently in effect.

The fire is approximately 12 miles southeast of Pomeroy, Washington and is burning in grass, brush and standing wheat.

Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the day the fire started burning, at the request of Fire Chief Noel Hardin of Asotin County Fire District 1.

Mobilization specialists from the Fire Protection Bureau have ordered five strike teams and one hand crew to fight the blaze.

Spokane Fire District 8 is on the way to Garfield County to help with the fire as well.
