Firefighter battling Montana wildfire killed by falling tree

LOLO, Mont. – A firefighter was killed by a fallen tree while fighting the Lolo Peak fire in Western Montana.

According to KPAX, medical crews were called to a report of a firefighter who had been struck by a tree while working near the McClain Creek area just south of Lolo on Wednesday afternoon.

Missoula County Sheriff TJ McDermott told KPAX further details of the accident will be available once the investigation is complete and family members have been notified.

Back on July 19, firefighter Trenton Johnson was killed after he was also hit by a falling tree while fighting a different fire.

As of Wednesday evening, the Lolo Peak fire was 6,302 acres and has not been contained.
