WSU football player, UI student honored for stopping man's suicide attempt

PULLMAN, Wash. – A Washington State University football player and a University of Idaho student were recognized by the Pullman Police Department Tuesday night after they helped a man who attempted suicide earlier this month.

The Pullman Police Department presented Grant Porter and Allison Schomburg with the Lifesaving Award. Porter and Schomburg helped the man down from a chair during the incident and engaged him in conversation until police arrived.

Police said the immediate actions of the students and their willingness to get involved very likely saved a life.

The man was contacted by police and transported to the hospital.
