Suspect arrested in Pullman bar burglary

PULLMAN, Wash --- A suspect was arrested today on suspicion of burglarizing Valhalla Bar and Grill more than two weeks ago.

On July 30, 2017, Pullman police were called to Valhalla Bar and Grill, to investigate a burglary. The investigation revealed the suspect broke the glass door of the business, entering and exiting the business several times.

The suspect stole money and a cash box. Employees at Mr. Z’s Casino in Pullman later reported a male subject gambling with money bundled in a unique way, identical to the money stolen from Valhalla.

Pullman police detectives obtained and served a search warrant at the subject’s residence in the 600 block of Northeast Campus Street, Pullman, for evidence of the burglary. Evidence, including the stolen cash box, was recovered during the search warrant service.

On August 17,2017 around 10:45 a.m., Pullman detectives arrested 22-year-old Stuart H. Schmidtke for second degree burglary, second degree theft and third degree malicious mischief. Schmidtke is a former Valhalla Bar and Grill employee. He was fingerprinted, photographed and released from the police department.

The case will be forwarded to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office requesting criminal charges.

Investigators credit Mr. Z’s Casino employees for coming forward with information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect in this case.
