SPOKANE -- Organizers held a tea party rally at the Spokane Convention Center Saturday afternoon.  They are against what they consider socialist policies coming from the Obama administration.
The group hopes to send a message to congress that they want less government spending and lower taxes.
The Tea Party Express travels the country making stops in 38 cities in 19 days.

Krem, thanks for at least reporting on this.

Quit spending a trillion dollars a year on war and weapons! How about that "war on marijuana"?!? Instead of more cops, prisons, ruined lives; we could cut in half the annual 44 billion spent on the "war on drugs", and the gov. could actually make $

I'm definitely no Obama supporter, but these "tea parties" seem a bit pre-mature to me. So far I'm not convinced his spending spree is any worse than that of our previous administration.

These poor sheep think the spending has been CAUSED by Obama. The huge deficit didn't just arrive on 1/20/09. It was the result of years of mismanagement under Bush and the Rs. Now, the grownups are cleaning up. What if they didn't?

On Bush's watch: 9/11, 2 unnecessary wars, the lousy response to Katrina victims the '08 market crash and the burning of the Constitution. Where were these jokers then? calling liberals and civil liberties defenders unpatriotic. F--- these people

Anonymous at 10:09...What should have been the proper response? (BTW, the TARP bill was under W.'s watch.) I hear so much bellyachin', but no serious and specific alternatives. I'm all for rational discussion of serious alternatives.

The Obama administration is running out of people to blame. Unemployment has gone to hugh numbers. The stimulas hasn't created any sustaining jobs for hardly anyone. If you want change you can beleive in, well you got it now!

It looks like there were over a million of us out there! Yes!! I hope everyone understood the irony we were trying to convey. Having an antisocialist rally in a public park is perfect! Maybe a library is next! HEAR OUR VOICE!

The spending by this administration is outrageous; we and our children will not be able to pay for their plans. Health care reform is being shoved through without thought. Start with TORT reform which would save health care 200 billion/yr!!!

Thank you Krem2 for covering this event! You were the *only* news station that had courage to report on what many citizens find important enough to stand up to peacefully speak their minds. Kudos to you! hehe funny code to verify: stifled against

No problem spending a trillion a year 2 kill people and support Middle Eastern drug dealers, but 2 spend money healing fellow Americans is "2 much"! Don't worry, the insurance boys will still get paid. Constitution "promote the general welfare"! Yep

wazzu34 said on November 1, 2009 at 6:10 PM

How about Obama making a decision about Afghanistan? Americans are dying and he can't bother to make a decision! He is instead caught up in spending money on socialist programs while our brave souls are dying. PATHETIC!!!!!

@ Empyrius: The entire cost of both the Afghan and Iraqi conflicts under Bush was about 700 Billion. In the first 8 months of 2009, we've gone over the budget by 1.5 TRILLION. Very little of that is due to war.

realitychk4dems said on November 1, 2009 at 6:40 PM

The real big spenders: 1)Wilson (D) Fed Res. Act/first real interventionist 2)FDR (D) Social Security - $Trillions 3)Truman (D) interventionist Korea conflict 4)LBJ (D) Medicare/Grt Society ult. resp for forcing $ off gold standard 5)BHO (D) ?????

empyrius said on November 1, 2009 at 8:35 PM

Your dem v rep divide is nonsense b/c both parties are wholly owned by the mil/corp/banker "complex"! Bush may, may, have "only" spent 700 billion on both wars (highly debatable) but when you add the other 800 bil spent yearly on weapons that is tril

scoutster said on November 1, 2009 at 8:49 PM

the whole point is that they DIDN'T spend for any of their toys...the wars, Medicare Part D, the expansions in public services, Katrina...it was all "Borrow and Spend, we will grow ourselves out of it" nonsense. Now someone has to pick up the toys.

scoutster said on November 1, 2009 at 8:55 PM

Oh, and one more thing..."No Government Health Care...Leave My Medicare Alone!"

President Bush was smart enough to keep the cost of the Iraq War off the books, so he wouldn't be blamed for the bill. He was a brilliant leader! The war didn't help anyone, so at least you can't call it socialism! Come on Obama let's see you get us out of this mess RIGHT NOW! We took 8 years to make it, let's see you fix it instantly FOR FREE!

shockfan said on November 2, 2009 at 3:16 PM

soccermomsusie, are you being sarcastic? I have never heard anyone refer to Bush as "smart enough", for any reason! Bush/Cheney were not socialist at all. They were more of a dictatorship. They kept all there meetings secret and when people try to find out any information they just deny or say "I don't recall" as Cheney did to the investigators questioning him about leaking information of a CIA agent's identity to punish her husband for questioning the information about WMD's in Iraq. The current administration is not going to solve all the problems created in the last eight years overnight! Yes, people continue to blame the Bush administration for the problems we now have. THEY created them! Just because someone else is now in charge does not mean it is no longer their fault, no matter how much time has passed!
