SPOKANE -- A Southwest Washington lawmaker has changed his mind about criminal charges in a Spokane extortion and sex scandal case.

Former republican state represenative Richard Curtis from La Center is pressing that 26-year-old Cody Castagna be charged with trying to extort $1,000 from him last month.

Curtis' attorney said he wants anyone else involved in the alleged blackmail plot to also be charged.

Curtis and Castagna told investigators they met at the Hollywood Erotic Boutique in Spokane Valley while Curtis was in Spokane for a lawmaker conference.

The two said they later met up at the Davenpot Tower, where Curtis was staying, and had sex. Afterwards, Curtis claimed Castagna stole his wallet.

Spokane Police recently identified a man seen on surveillance video from the Davenport Tower the day after Curtis and Castagna spent the night together.

The person identified collected $200 Curtis said he left at the front desk for Castagna.

Officers will not release the person's name, but say he is a friend of Castagna's.

Curtis said he left the money so that Castagna would give him his wallet back.

Castagna said the wallet was given to him by Curtis as collateral.

When the investigation began, Curtis did not want criminal charges to be filed because he was concerned about the incident going public.

Curtis resigned from office last week over the scandal.
