SPOKANE - A semi-truck clipped another truck and rolled on Interstate 90, spilling its payload of 53,000 pounds of viscous mayonnaise in the median Friday morning.

The accident happened around 5:30 am Friday approximately two miles west of Ritzville.

The Washington State Patrol reports that the driver transporting the mayo tried to pass another semi-truck but lost control due to icy road conditions and a high rate of speed and tumbled over.

A truck carrying 53,000 pounds of mayonnaise crashed along Interstate 90 near Ritzville Friday morning, dumping its viscous cargo into the median.

Two people in the truck transporting mayonnaise were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The other driver was transporting a load of frozen pies in his trailer. Luckily none of them were lost in the incident.

All of the mayo that had been in the truck was being transported to the Washington State Department of Corrections. There’s no word on how much it will cost and how long it will take to replace those jars of mayonnaise.

No thanks to the mayo, traffic was flowing smoothly along the Interstate even though crews were busy in the median cleaning up the accident scene.
