West Spokane County-- Firefighters are investigating what caused a trailer fire early Tuesday morning.

Will Mueller

This firefighter emerges from a burned out home with a child's toy.

That fire destroyed a home just off Highway 195 near 47th and Sherman.

The fire began on the back porch, but officials are not sure how.

Firefighters were able to contain 95% of the fire to the attic. The roof has significant damage, and officials say the structure may be a total loss.

Fire crews were concerned the brush surrounding the home could catch fire. However the homeowners had enough defensible space lowering the risk of a wildfire.

The family was able to escape safely. The Red Cross is now on scene offering assistance.
